WHO WAS WARREN GRIMES

Warren was born in Montgomery County close to where the Wright brothers lived and worked.  As a child he would ride his bicycle down to Huffman Prairie to watch the Wrights test their airplanes.  Warren began his career in Aviation designing lights for the Ford TriMotor.  Until the 1920s, airplanes and airports were not equipped with lighting.   Pilots relied on bonfires or firepots to guide them or land them.  
Warren quickly realized that he could make more money working for himself and started his own company developing lighting, and the rest is history!

  • The Grimes Flying Lab Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.    ALL donations are 100% tax deductible.

  • The Grimes Flying Lab Foundation is dedicated to the Flying Lab test vehicle, as well as preserving the legacy of Warren G. Grimes

WHAT IS THE 'FLYING LAB'

The best way to test a newly invented light was to put it on an aircraft and fly it up to altitude to make sure it performed correctly.   They they'd fly over to Boeing and show them the different combinations of lights available!   It currently has over 75 lights on it!!  We love to fly it for special events for everyone to see, and Love to see it!  they do!
